Thanks to the generosity of our Girton College alumni and supporters we managed to raise over £115,000 (breaking the College record) during our Girton Giving Day, which was held over 9-10 October 2023.
The Giving Day is a wonderful opportunity for our Girton community to celebrate everything that makes the College special and to make a real difference to our students now and in the future. This year, 360 donors from 25 countries made a gift – an incredible display of generosity from Girtonians all over the globe!
Most of the donations made during the Giving Day were directed towards the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund helps to support all aspects of College life by providing the flexibility to fund the areas of greatest need. Projects that will be supported this year include:
- increasing support for students struggling with the cost of living at Cambridge
- expanding support for student welfare
- supporting an all-round education, including sports, music and other activities
Over the course of 36-hours, Fellows, students, staff and alumni took part in a variety of challenges and activities in College, with more than 150 members of the Girton community adding their visions for the College to our Girton wishing tree. There was a huge variety of ideas ranging from going carbon neutral to expanding the gym to adopting a new College pet. Our alumni and supporters also shared their Girton memories, which you can read online.
