Girton College’s annual review ‘The Year’, featuring articles, profiles and reports relating to all aspects of College life, is now available to read online. Hard copies will be available soon.

The academic year 2022-23 saw Girton welcome a new Mistress, Dr Elisabeth Kendall, who in her opening letter reflects on the array of activities that made up her first year in post:

“I’ve marvelled at just how much goes on behind the scenes at Girton. As I’ve walked around our stunning grounds, bounded up the Tower to peer around, wandered along our corridors and toured our vast kitchens, I’m filled with admiration at the enormous team effort that goes into making our College run smoothly.”

As a new Mistress joined, in 2022-23 former Mistress of Girton, Life Fellow and Chair of the College’s Legacies of Enslavement working group, Professor Dame Marilyn Strathern, shares personal reflections around confronting this previously closed door to the past.

‘The Year’ also profiles College members making contributions through their research, engagement and leadership across key areas of the College. These include our new Senior Tutor Professor Toni Williams, Christine McKie Official Fellow and palaeontologist Dr Alex Liu, Head Gardener Julia Andersson, and Katharine Jex-Blake Research Fellow in English Literature Dr Anna Nickerson.

We also recognise the outstanding contributions of our alumni and supporters, provide updates from our global and regional alumni associations, announce births and marriages/civil-partnerships from the Girton community and remember Girtonians who have sadly passed away.
