Girton welcomes artist Yasmin Jahan Nupur as Cavendish Arts Science Fellow

Yasmin Jahan Nupur

Bangladesh-based multidisciplinary visual and performance artist Yasmin Jahan Nupur has been named the sixth Cavendish Arts Science Fellow at Girton College.

The Fellowship is delivered as a partnership between Cavendish Arts Science, an initiative of the Cavendish Laboratory, Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge and Girton College, thanks to the vision and support of Girton alumna Dr Una Ryan.

The Fellowship is designed to support artists to develop thought-provoking ideas through engagement with physicists among other scholars and to experiment with new approaches to their practice that are transformative and push boundaries.

Yasmin Jahan Nupur is a multidisciplinary visual and performance artist based in Bangladesh. Her practice brings together textile, embroidery, batik, mixed media and performance, often informed by oral histories, traditional craft and collaborative research. Through these approaches, she considers how personal and collective experience is shaped by place, memory, displacement and environmental change.

Yasmin received the Grand Prize at the Asian Art Biennale in 2022, and her work is held in the collections of Tate Modern and the Whitworth Art Gallery. She also participated in the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2025–2026 where her work was widely noted for its poetic and layered sensibility.
