Remembering Giulio Regeni (1988-2016)

Girton College Tower with a flag flying at half-mast with the text Remembering Giulio Regeni 1988-2016

As many of you know, on 25 January 2016, Giulio Regeni, a postgraduate student at Girton College, went missing during the fieldwork for his doctorate in Egypt. His body was found on the outskirts of Cairo on 3 February 2016. He had been abducted, tortured and murdered. No one has yet been brought to justice for that crime. Girton College stands with all those calling for truth and justice for Giulio and his family.

Giulio Regeni (1988-2016)

Our College flag is flying at half-mast in his memory, and at 12 noon today (25 January 2023), and again on 3 February 2023, we shall light a candle for Giulio in the Chapel . Please feel free to drop in during your lunchbreak to reflect on the life of a fine scholar, great friend, and passionate advocate for human rights.
