6th February, 19th April and 8th May 2018
The Cavendish Laboratory (Department of Physics) at the University of Cambridge is opening its doors to students in all year groups to encourage students to take up physics in the next stage of their education and to raise aspirations among talented scientists.
Girton College is again collaborating with the laboratory this year to offer this opportunity to state schools in our link areas of Camden, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, and Wolverhampton.
On the 6th of February Girton will be welcoming Year 12 students
On the 19th of April Girton will be welcoming Year 7 and 8 students
On the 8th of May Girton will be welcoming Year 9 students
Opportunities may be available for other year groups at different colleges. Please find further information here: https://outreach.phy.cam.ac.uk/programme/CCPE
During each event students will spend a day exploring what it would be like to study Physics at the University of Cambridge. The morning will be spent at Girton College, and will include a tour of the college, an age-appropriate talk about Higher Education, and opportunities to ask questions. After lunch, students will be taken to the Department of Physics (http://www.phy.cam.ac.uk) where they will experience a university laboratory and have hands-on experience of science outside of the classroom. The session will include an introductory interactive lecture followed by practical experiments and workshop sessions, again to suit each age group.
