Girtonians recognised by Forbes and funders

Matt

The Girton duo’s food carbon footprint labelling start-up receives major funding and global recognition by Forbes 30 under 30 for systemically and sustainably transforming education, business and beyond.

Congratulations to Girton alumni and My Emissions co-founders, Matthew Isaacs (2015, Law) and Nathan Bottomley (2015, Engineering) who have been recognised by Forbes in the 2024 30 under 30 (Europe) list, in the Social Impact category and for securing £1.3 million in funding to become the go-to platform for carbon assessments across the food industry. The over-subscribed Seed Round was led by Hambro Perks, and supported by LOVE Ventures, the angel syndicate Raspberry Ventures, and industry angel investors.

Matthew Isaacs, My Emissions Co-Founder (2015, Law) explains:

Food companies are under increasing pressure from customers, investors and regulators to reduce their carbon emissions. This funding and recent Forbes 30 Under 30 recognition, gives us the backing we need to expand our team, accelerate our growth, and ultimately give food companies everything they need to reduce emissions and achieve their net-zero targets.

We’re delighted to welcome Hambro Perks and LOVE Ventures as investors, and Laura Noorani as a Board Director.

My Emissions is a tech start-up that addresses the need for food companies to affordably measure emissions of individual products and accurately report their annual Scope 3 emissions. See the Carbon Trust website for more information on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol categorises GHG emissions. The My Emissions platform reports at an unparalleled speed, primarily through its integrations with existing recipe management, inventory management and point-of-sales systems, so food companies can focus on their reduction strategy.

My Emissions has recently been selected to work with Just Eat Takeaway.com and UEFA to develop a solution around the 2024 Champions League Final. Other users of the platform include The FSC Group (with whom they carbon label the food-to-go range at Waterstones Cafe), AB World Foods, Selfridges, and the Good Eating Company (part of Sodexo Group). They have also presented their methodology and findings to DEFRA to help standardise emissions reporting and eco-labelling in the UK.
