Upcoming Girton College Outreach Events

Join us for enriching masterclasses, immersive taster days, engaging talks, and exciting events. Experience hands-on learning, connect with like-minded individuals, and be inspired by thought-provoking discussions and activities.

These events provide a dynamic and supportive environment for personal and professional growth, whether you're a school student, teacher, or parent/supporter.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests for in-person Careers and HE Fairs for 2025-26. However, please do still let us know about your event by contacting access@girton.cam.ac.uk as we would be delighted to send some resources to be displayed. Together, we can discuss how we can best support your students with our upcoming programme of events for the year.

Modern Languages Taster Day Competition

Following on from our taster day, held Wednesday 15 October 2025, students were invited to write a short paragraph in their chosen language about their experience. Congratulations to Jasmine, who won a £50 National Book Token for their entry in German:

Schools across Camden will have been contacted about an exciting opportunity to collaborate with us on a scheme aiming to bring schools together and offer localised outreach support. This scheme is available for students in Year 12. We can offer 10 spaces per school, but if demand is low, we may be able to release further spaces.

We hope that by establishing consistent contact via this scheme, students become familiar with the Outreach and Admissions team at Girton and respond well to the localised attention and support we are offering, rather than just in a one-off online session. Over time, we hope students will become inspired and excited to move forward through their educational journey, equipped with the critical skills needed to apply for more competitive universities.

The sessions are as follows:

  • Thursday 29 January 2026, 15:30-17:00 at Capital City College Group, King’s Cross Campus.
  • Friday 27 February 2026, 10:00-16:00 at Girton College, University of Cambridge. We can offer up to £500 toward coach travel and a free lunch (with consent, we can also release names of schools/contacts so schools can arrange travel with each other to bring down costs).

If you are a teacher in Camden and would be interested in joining this scheme, please contact access@girton.cam.ac.uk

Online events

Make sure to follow our social media accounts to keep up with our 'A Subject A Day in May' series.

It is important for students in Year 10-12 to be thinking about what subject they may want to study at University as early as possible, as the choices they make post-16 will impact what doors are open to them.

This will be a series of short videos giving a glimpse into the subjects and courses offered at Girton College. Viewers can hear from our own Fellows and students discussing different aspects of the courses, whether that is a structural overview of the content, or papers that they particularly enjoy learning or leaching about.

This is an opportunity for students in Year 12 or equivalent to research and write beyond the curriculum, using one or more of five selected objects from the Lawrence Room museum objects, as their focus. Essays or creative responses (such as dramatic monologues, short stories or poems) are equally welcome.

Deadline? Friday 20 March 2026

Those who sign up will be able to participate in online webinars that will offer advice about admissions, information on student life and the opportunity to hear from current students from a range of backgrounds and ask them lots of questions. Parents and guardians are invited to join us for their own Q&A session. In addition, a smaller group of participants who meet widening participation criteria will experience life as a Cambridge student by joining us for a three-day residential at Trinity Hall in either April 2026 or August 2026.

For the first time in 2025/26 we will be running a limited number of super curricular exploration sessions for students to get a flavour of small group teaching at Cambridge, while improving their oracy skills and exploring topics outside the curriculum.

The Exploring Law Conference was founded fifty-one years ago to give Year 12 (Y13 NI/S5 Scotland) students who may be interested in studying Law at degree level a balanced view of the Law, both as an academic subject and as a profession, and also to offer an insight into life as a Cambridge undergraduate.

The 2026 Conference will be a four day in-person Conference at the University of Cambridge. The committee and the Faculty are working hard to bring 250 students into Cambridge for a residential experience which will aim to offer students a taste of the study of Law. The conference will run between Monday 30th March and Thursday 2nd April 2026.

The fee for the conference will be £240 for the 100 self-funded participants. Please note: this fee is part-subsidised to keep the cost of self-funded places as low as possible. There are additionally 150 fully funded places for qualifying students who are selected, and travel bursaries are also available. Further information can be found on our website.

Applications opened on the 1st November 2025 and will close on the 31st of December 2025. You can find the application form on the Conference website.

For more information, visit our website or email president.exploringconference@law.cam.ac.uk , outreach@law.cam.ac.uk or us (applications.exploringconference@law.cam.ac.uk).

Head Up! is accepting mentee signups for our 2026 mentoring programme!

Our free mentoring scheme supports 14-18 year-olds who self-identify as disabled (or anyone who has a physical/mental health condition, SpLD, or neurodivergence).

As a mentee, you'll be paired with a student/recent grad according to subject or condition. You'll meet online for an hour per month for at least 1 year, and can cover topics with your mentor such as UCAS, exams, or the broader issues that come with disability. You'll also be able to attend the events that we run throughout the year covering disability, education, and university. You can sign up to attend just these events if you'd prefer.

To find out more information, access articles and resources, and sign up for our mentoring scheme, visit www.head-up.org

The objectives of the competition are to promote discussion and interest in public policy issues among secondary school students and provide an opportunity to practice writing in the concise style of professional policy papers and memos. When much political discourse is surrounded by misinformation, emotional appeals, and short-term solutions, TWS aims to encourage pragmatic, insightful, and balanced debate.

The competition is free to enter and open to all students who are resident in the UK and were aged 16-18 years old on the 10th of September 2025.
