Roll of Alumni Weekend and Dinner 2024 (including alumni reunion dinner for 1964, 1974, 1984, 1987 and 1988)

Girton College is delighted to be hosting our annual Roll of Alumni weekend dinner (including reunion dinner for all those who matriculated in 1964, 1974, 1984, 1987 and 1988) on Saturday 28 September 2024. The dinner coincides with a weekend of activities being held in the College including talks, the unveiling of the latest addition to our People’s Portraits collection, and a concert.

To book your attendance please complete the form at the end of this page. Bookings will close by Friday 13 September 2024 but please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis so early booking is recommended.

10.30 – 19.00 Reception Desk in the Reception Room will be open for collection of name badges and programmes

10.30 – 17.00 Free Tea and Coffee will be available outside the Old Hall

11.00 – 12.00 Trailblazer: the life and work of Barbara Leigh Smith Bodichon. Join Jane Robinson, author of Blue Stockings and Trailblazer as she explores the life and work of Barbara Bodichon, co-founder of Girton College. More information...

12.00 –14.00  Lunch will be available in the cafeteria in the main Hall. Please note that we accept card payments only.  

12.00 – 18.00 The Library and Archive will be open.  

14.00 – 15.00 Pā kahawai: A world inside a hook. During her talk, Dr Lucie Carreau (Collections Team Coordinator at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Cambridge), will aim to reveal why hooks are more than small utilitarian objects, and how their abilities to bridge land and sea, articulate past and present, and connect peoples, make them amongst the most extraordinary objects of Pacific material culture. 15.00 – 16.00 The Lawrence Room which house’s Girton’s mummy Hermione, will be open. 

15.10 – 15.50 Robert Ssempijja: Bound State. A dance performance and Q&A by Robert Ssempijja, Cavendish Arts Science Fellow at Girton College 2023-24. This new work in progress, choreographed and performed by Robert Ssempijja, explores the real and perceived boundaries of our imagination. More information...

17.10 – 17.50 Robert Ssempijja: Bound State. Repeat performance (see above). 

18.00 – 23.30 Bar will be open.

18.00 – 19.00 Concert This year’s Concert for the Roll will feature a current PhD student, Edward Campbell-Rowntree on piano, and the prize-winning soprano, Georgie Malcolm, with whom he regularly collaborates. The two musicians have been invited to take part in the 2024 Wigmore Hall International Song Competition.  More information...

For all alumni including reunion tables for those who came up in 1964, 1974, 1984, 1987 and 1988.

10.00 – 11.00  Reception desk open

10.30 – 11.30 Gardens Talk Join Life-Fellow Dr Roland Randall as he gives an update on the plantings, identifications and labelling in the historic orchard at Girton College. The talk will finish with a guided tour of the Orchard.
