We are delighted to welcome Althea Talbot-Howard for our 2026 Black History Month Lecture to give a talk on "The Door of No Return (2021): Woodwind Recital Music as a Slavery Counter-narrative".
Althea Talbot-Howard, a classical composer, content creator and social-anthropology graduate (Girton, 1986), will introduce her multi-instrumental sonata via a screening of its narrative performance video.
Functioning as both a memorial to slavery and a celebration of fortitude amongst members of the African diaspora, The Door also serves as a memorial to the late US Representative and Civil Rights leader John Lewis, who visited Ghana during its Year of Return in 2019, shortly before his death in 2020.
All University of Cambridge members are welcome. Booking information to follow.
If you would like to attend the William Dusinberre Prize Giving Ceremony before the Lecture, please email leprize@girton.cam.ac.uk.
