Girton Alumni Sports Association (GASA) promotes sporting networks between alumni and students. It recognises and encourages the qualities of teamwork, organisational capability and mental and physical wellbeing which come from sport. It was launched at a special Reception in the Long Room of Lord’s Cricket Ground, in March 2010.

GASA’s Honorary President is Professor Sarah Springman (1975) and GASA is being led by Seb Fox (1982).

Past Events

March 9 2019 – Alumni and students gathered on Saturday 9 March 2019 to compete in three fixtures: mixed doubles badminton, rugby (seven aside) and football. This is the first time badminton has been featured on this sports day – so thank you to those who took part. The alumni rugby team lifted the John Marks Salver (10-8) and the alumni football team retained the Fran Malarée Mug for the third year in a row (3-1). A very big thank you goes out to all the captains and players (and spectators!) for making it such an enjoyable day.

March 2018 – The weather was mercifully kind for the annual Alumni vs Students Football match this year, with no sign of the ice, wind and snow of recent weeks. It was a high scoring match with the alumni team lifting the Fran Malarée mug for the second year in a row. The final score was 8 – 4. Many thanks to the captains and coordinators, Joe Pennell (2012), Gideon Levitt (2012), James Ballantyne (2012), and Tom Virgo (2016), and all the players for all their efforts in arranging the fixture. See the GASA Facebook page for photos of the match!

The John Marks Sports Pavilion

Around 800 alumni and supporters have generously donated over the last decade towards the Girton Sports Pavilion Campaign. Planning permission was granted for an uncompromisingly modern design and  construction of the Pavilion began in September 2012. The project was completed in the summer of 2013 and has been named the John Marks Sports Pavilion.

As ever, we are immensely grateful to all of our donors, without whose generosity this project would have been impossible. Those who gave £500 or more have been recognised on a Donor Board in the pavilion and additionally have become members of A Great Campaign.
