Main College Building

Girton College has housed students on its current site since 1873.  Since it opened, additional wings have been added, all built around courtyards and set in the beautiful green environment of the College grounds.  Initially the College could only house 21 students but there are now over 250 living in the main College building.  As well as bedrooms the building contains the main College facilities such as the Dining Hall, Social Hub, Library, College offices, Fellow rooms, Porters' Lodge, swimming pool and College Museum.

The original Victorian College building has accommodation across three floors.  The rooms are all single and along corridors of five to twenty bedrooms.  The study bedrooms are of different sizes, some with character features such as fire places, while still providing the facilities which meet the demands of modern student life.  The rooms have shared kitchen facilities and most have shared bathrooms (a very small number are en-suite).  Some rooms are sets (where there are two parts to the room with one part for sleep and one for study) and some have sinks.  For students studying music there are rooms with pianos in them.  There are laundry facilities within the building.

The accommodation is for undergraduate students, with students from different courses accommodated together.  There is a small single sex area, but the rest of the accommodation is mixed sex.
