GCMS: From near and far - A musical journey with pianos

Steinway piano in Stanley Library
  • Charlotte Howdle and Sophie Kileff (violin)
  • Elizabeth Ip (viola); Archie Purdue (cello)
  • Oscar Gardner, Rufus Jasko, Tomás Escobar, Archie Purdue, Morvern Scrivener, Amanda Zhou and Martin Ennis (piano)

In this wide-ranging programme, we hear movements from Dvorak’s ever-popular Piano Quintet alongside Milhaud’s exhilarating Scaramouche for two pianos, originally written for a 1937 international exhibition and built round South American popular music, and Colin McPhee’s dazzling transcriptions for two pianos of Balinese ceremonial music.
