Masterplanning resubmission

Why does the college need to resubmit the planning permission?

In October 2016 Girton College was granted Outline Planning consent for the provision of further student accommodation and related facilities on the main College site.

As a consequence of the pandemic the College has been unable to progress with the approved scheme within the timescales set by the outline consent. We have discussed with the Greater Cambridge Planning Partnership how to address this clearly unforeseen delay, to enable the College to move forward with our development plans. The advice from the Council being that we should resubmit the existing outline application. The College therefore intends to resubmit the application, comprising precisely the same scheme, augmented where necessary with new information and updated surveys to reflect changes in planning policy and guidance. The submission will be made early in the New Year via our planning consultants Turley, formally Beacon Planning, who dealt with the original application.

The only reason this is resubmitted is to extend the timetable allowed for the submission of reserved matters applications.

What happens next?

It is expected that the outline planning application will be determined by South Cambridgeshire Council in the Summer of 2022. If approved, the College will prepare and submit the first detailed planning application within the next few years.

Comments can be made directly to the College via the link below, as well as formally on the Council’s website once the application is submitted and validated.
