Remembering Giulio Regeni (1988-2016)

College flag flying at half-mast

As many of you know, on 25 January 2016, Giulio Regeni, a Girton Postgraduate student, went missing during the fieldwork for his doctorate in Cairo. His body was found on the outskirts of the city on 3 February 2016. He had been abducted, tortured and murdered, and no one has yet been brought to justice for that crime. Girton stands with all those calling for truth and justice for Giulio and his family.

Giulio Regeni

Our College flag is flying at half-mast in his memory, and at 12 noon today (25 January 2022), and again on 3 February 2022, we shall light a candle for Giulio in the Chapel. Please feel free to drop in during your lunchbreak to reflect on the life of a fine scholar, great friend, and passionate advocate for human rights.
