Girton College is delighted to celebrate the success of this year’s Telephone Campaign, which took place between Thursday 9 April and Saturday 25 April, raising vital funds to support students and sustain the College’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
During this period, our team of dedicated student callers spoke with hundreds of Girtonians, strengthening connections across our global community.
Thanks to the remarkable generosity of our alumni and friends, the campaign raised more than £215,000 from around 250 donors. This flexible, unrestricted support will have an immediate and meaningful impact across the College.
This total includes matched funding pledged by a very kind donor. With the help of the 55 supporters who chose to set up a new regular gift, an additional £31,250 was unlocked, significantly increasing the campaign’s overall impact. These regular donations are essential to the College, providing predictable income that enables Girton to sustain its long-term ambitions.
The support of Girtonians is at the heart of the College’s ability to respond where it matters most. These donations will help to ease financial pressures for students, expand access to academic and personal development opportunities, and strengthen initiatives that prepare students for life beyond Cambridge.
Joy M. (2023, Law) one of this year’s student callers, shared her experience:
“One of the most striking parts of the Telethon was realising how strongly Girton’s sense of community persists across generations. Speaking to alumni who had completely different experiences of Girton, but who still felt connected to the values the College was founded on – and continues to foster – was inspiring. It was incredible to see how they’ve carried those values into such a wide range of careers and achievements beyond Girton’s red-brick walls.”
Another caller reflected:
“Between dial tones, busy lines, and the occasional fax machine, I found my calls with alumni incredibly enriching. Whether they shared encouragement, career advice, or stories from their time at College, each conversation reminded me of what an incredible gift it is to be part of a multigenerational community like Girton.”
Since its foundation in 1869, Girton has stood for widening opportunity, raising standards, and reshaping what is possible. That mission continues to guide the College today as it supports a diverse and talented community of over 800 students from across the globe.
