Casual Relief Night and Day Porters
The College holds a list of those registered to undertake casual work in the Lodge of Girton College. Casual workers, by their nature, do not work regular guaranteed hours, but are called upon in times of staff shortages (e.g. sick leave). We will always aim to give as much notice of shifts as possible, however, in the case of sickness, shifts may be offered at short notice. Night and day shift cover is usually 12 hours long, 7pm to 7am and 7am to 7pm. Please note that we currently anticipate our greatest need is for night shift cover, so please consider this when making your application.
The Porters’ Lodge plays a key role in all aspects of College life. It is the central information and reception point for members and visitors and coordinates site security and safety matters, including emergency response. Casual Relief Night and Day Porters should have excellent communication skills and be able to undertake and apply training in first aid, fire safety and other emergency procedures. Other essential requirements for the role include the ability to be calm under pressure, have a flexible approach to a varied and demanding workload and be able to work alone and as part of a team. A satisfactory Standard DBS Check is necessary for this role (to be acquired on appointment).
