Sport plays an important part in College life

Girton College sports clubs cater for all abilities

Students who have never regarded themselves as sporting types can participate simply for enjoyment, or just to try something new. On the other hand Girton participates actively in inter-college league and cup competitions, and supports those who wish to try for University places.

What sports can I get involved in while at Girton?

Girton fields men’s and women’s teams in football, rugby, hockey, cricket and tennis. There are also swimming, table tennis, squash, darts, water polo, badminton and croquet teams. Students also play sports from ice hockey to lacrosse both locally and at University level.

Rowing is a Cambridge institution and Girton College is very much part of that. Many seize the opportunity to try this sport during their time at College; others simply enjoy watching from the river bank at the annual barbecue in ‘May Week’. There is a thriving Girton College Boat Club (GCBC) which shares a boathouse on the Cam and supports several men’s and women’s crews.

As alumni, what can we get involved in?

For alumni, the Infidels Boat Club supports College rowing and offers a varied calendar of social and rowing events in Cambridge, London and further afield.

The Girton Alumni Sports Association (GASA) brings together alumni and students who share a passion for sport. It organises a growing programme of events and fixtures for GASA members, which includes the alumni versus students fixtures, and social events.
