Girton College Music Society

Girton College Music Society (GCMS) organises much of the music making in college. This takes many forms, ranging from the series of weekly Sunday afternoon recitals (given by both students and visiting professionals), and termly orchestral concerts, through to jazz evenings and other more informal occasions. GCMS concerts regularly attract audiences from inside and outside college. A high level of input from the Director of Music and the other members of Girton's music staff brings a level of professionalism to student endeavours, but at the same time there is plenty of scope for students to take charge and be experimental. Recent programmes have included Copland's Appalachian Spring, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Poulenc's Gloria, as well as numerous classical concertos and symphonies.

Girton College is also a member of the 'Orchestra on the Hill', which draws together instrumentalists from Girton, Magdalene, New Hall, Churchill and Fitzwilliam Colleges for regular orchestral rehearsal and concerts.
