GIRTON COLLEGE ONLINE EVENING MEDITATION

The Chaplain will lead this meditation at 8:45pm, on the Chapel Community Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/GirtonCollegeChapel

Introduction

Silence

The Lord is here

All: His Spirit is with us.

Holy God,
Holy and Mighty One,
Holy and Strong One,

All: Abide in us.

Holy God,
Holy and Incarnate One,
Holy and Indwelling One,

All: Abide in us.

Holy God,
Holy and Life-giving One,
Holy and Guiding One,

Abide in us.

And so we turn our minds to God who lovingly sustains all things, recognising that the life of the universe is not in our hands but in God’s. Through the mystery of all that life seems to us, we place our trust in one who loves us even unto death.

All: We believe, O God of all Gods, that you are

The Creator of all things.

All: We believe, O God of all Gods, that you are

The Lord and giver of life

All: We believe, O God of all Gods, that you are

The sustainer of all peoples

All: We believe, O God of all Gods, that you are

The giver of breath and spirit

All: We believe, O God of all Gods, that you are

The giver of body and mind

All: We believe, O God of all Gods, that you are

Here and with us now.

Silence

The Lord is here

How wonderful, O Lord, are the works of your hands!
The heavens declare your glory,
The arch of the sky displays your handiwork.
In your love you have given us the power to behold the beauty of your world in all its splendour.

The sun and the stars, the valleys and the hills,
The rivers and the lakes, all disclose your presence.
The roaring breakers of the sea tell of your awesome might;
The beasts of the field and the birds of the air proclaim your wondrous will. In your goodness you have made us able to hear the music of the world. The voices of loved ones reveal to us that you are in our midst.
A divine song sings through all creation.

Blessed are you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God for ever.

Silent Prayers

May God have mercy upon us and all those for whom we pray. Amen.

Almighty God, who by the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ, dispelled the darkness of the world and gave light to all peoples, protect us as the darkness descends, and keep us ever in your light, and continue to enlighten our lives by your great glory. Through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

The glory of the Lord shine upon you, and scatter the darkness from before your path, that you may ever walk in God’s light. Amen.

Material drawn from David Adam, Celtic Daily Prayer, SPCK, 1996.
