Annual Gardens Talk - “Significant Surroundings – gardens and other influences”

All alumni and friends are warmly invited to the 2017 Girton College Gardens Talk event at 10.30am in the Stanley Library on Sunday September 24th.

"Significant Surroundings - gardens and other influences" by Katharine Coleman MBE (Geography 1967)

The inspiration for glass engraver Katharine Coleman’s work can be found in the ordinary, whether in nature, garden plants or the modern urban landscape. Described by the V&A as perhaps the foremost glass engraver working in Britain today, Katharine was originally a geographer and began engraving on glass in 1984. Technically skilled, she explores the optical properties of glass, to draw the eye beyond the surface, creating illusions of one body floating within another.

Katharine has exhibited widely in Europe, USA and Japan, with work in many major international museum collections. She received an MBE for services to glass engraving in 2009 and has won several international prizes. Further information: and
