GCMS - Andrew Kennedy (tenor) and Martin Ennis (piano)

Andrew Kennedy (tenor) and Martin Ennis (piano)
Andrew Kennedy, one of the leading tenors of his generation, returns to Girton, where he is Musician-in-Residence, for a performance of two of the greatest collections of nineteenth-century Lieder. Schumann’s Op. 39 Liederkreis, settings of poems by Eichendorff, is often viewed as his greatest song-cycle; Brahms’s magnificent Op. 32 collection epitomises his concept of the ‘Liederstrauss’ – literally, a ‘garland of songs’ – works that cohere, though not necessarily through a narrative thread.
