All alumni are warmly invited to a Concert in the Stanley Library. Classical pianist Matthew Schellhorn (1995, Music) will perform. Repertoire: Beethoven's 'Pathétique' Sonata with works by Maurice Emmanuel and Herbert Howells. Admission is free, there will be a retiring collection.
Matthew Schellhorn read for the Music Tripos at Girton from 1995–98 and took the Bachelor of Music degree in 1999; during that time, he received the College Music Scholarship for three consecutive years and was the first winner of the London Girton Association Award.
Born in Yorkshire in 1977, his teachers have included Peter Hill, Maria Curcio and Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen. He has given recitals in many major venues throughout the UK, including Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room. He is a regular guest soloist at international festivals and has performed live on numerous international radio stations.
He is also active as a teacher, giving regular masterclasses and workshops in the UK and abroad. For several years, he has taught at the University of Cambridge, where he gives instrumental tuition and chamber coaching to numerous students; in October 2016 he was elected to membership of the Faculty of Music.
He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
