Detailed below are the most commonly asked questions by prospective brides and grooms with the answers detailed to assist you in your planning and preparation:

You are able to have weddings at Girton College all year round, with the exception of May through to the end June when our students will be sitting their examinations.

Our most popular period for bookings is between the start of July and the middle of September, but we are also able to host a limited number of autumn and winter weddings.

Girton Alumni are eligible to apply to hold their ceremony in the College Chapel, dependent upon availability.

You are able to discuss the application process with the College Chaplain.

There are no discounts available for weddings for Alumni of the College.

Yes, civil ceremonies can be hosted at Girton College.

Yes, civil partnerships can be hosted at Girton College.

In terms of civil ceremonies at the College, we are able to host a maximum of 65 guests in the Stanley Library and 120 guests in the Old Hall.

With regards to the wedding breakfast, the maximum number is 200 guests in the Great Hall. We operate a minimum number of 75 guests for the full wedding package on key dates during the peak periods of the year – namely July and August. Our team will be able to make you aware of these when you make your enquiry.

Yes, we have free parking facilities for approximately 60 cars on site at the College.

During July – middle September we are able to offer a range of accommodation within College.

Dependent upon availability, we will be able to offer a selection of double en-suites, single en-suites, twin en-suites and standard bedrooms.

As part of the wedding package we include a changing room for the bride / wedding party to use.

Additional room requirements for early arrivals etc. can be discussed and arranged with your wedding co-ordinator.

All catering at Girton College is provided by our own in-house team, and you are not able to provide your own catering for your event at Girton College.

However, we are confident that our team can work with you to provide a wide range, and if necessary, bespoke range of catering possibilities.

With our suppliers we are able to source a wide range of champagnes and wines. Should you wish to provide your own selection there would be a corkage charge levied per opened bottle.

Children of all ages are very welcome to attend wedding ceremonies and receptions at Girton College.

We are able to provide high chairs and cater for children’s dining requirements – from ½ portions of the main meal to children’s menus.

There are very few restrictions at Girton College. From the traditional wedding band, DJ or Ceilidh through to an 18 piece 1920’s Jazz orchestra, we have hosted a full range of entertainment at past weddings here at the college.

Absolutely! We now have specific packages for this style of event and they can be found in the Packages and Prices section of the wedding options on the website.

Included in the full wedding package is the opportunity for the bride and groom to have a menu tasting (up to four guests) where they are able to taste 3 x starters (including 1 vegetarian), 3 x main courses (including 1 x vegetarian) and 2 x desserts.

The group are also able to taste 2 x white wines and 2 x red wines with the meal which also includes sparkling wine upon arrival and coffee with homemade chocolates.

The wedding menu tasting is only available to couples who have a confirmed booking at the College and who have paid their deposit and returned their signed contract.

You are able to throw confetti at the College, but it must be bio-degradeable and only in specific areas.

Details of these can be discussed further with your wedding co-ordinator.

Whilst we are happy to let you know who we have worked with at the College at previous events, you are completely free to source your own suppliers in these areas.

In order to secure your selected date at Girton College you will need to return a signed copy of the booking contract and payment of the initial 25% deposit (based upon an estimation of the overall event).

Once you have done this, your booking is confirmed. You will also be invoiced for a further 25% of the remaining balance, payment of which must be received prior to the date of the wedding.

The invoice for the outstanding balance will be issued on the first working day after the wedding day.

No. This part of the day must be managed by the couple themselves. The College does not organise or take any responsibility for this area of organisation.
