Dr Marjorie Chibnall
We have recently received the sad news that Dr Marjorie Chibnall OBE, Honorary Fellow and former Director of Studies in History and Fine Art at Girton College, died on 23 June 2012, at Broomgrove Nursing Home, Sheffield, aged 96.
Dr Chibnall was a Lecturer in History at Girton College 1947-65, a Fellow 1953-65; and was Director of Studies in History and Fine Art 1960-65. She became an Honorary Fellow in 1988. She published extensively on medieval Normandy, and her career also encompassed Clare Hall, Cambridge, the University of Southampton, and the University of Aberdeen. She was awarded an Honorary DLitt by the University of Cambridge in 2002, and was appointed OBE for services to history in 2004.
