Dr Samantha Williams, Girton Fellow, on Today Posted on Feb. 24, 2012
Dr Samantha Williams, Fellow in History, was on the Today Programme this morning talking about her research into welfare provision in Bedfordshire between 1760 and 1834. Dr Wiliams is also mentioned in the Guardian's leading article on 24 February 2012.
Dr Williams is a Bye Fellow of Girton College. She is also a University Lecturer, and is Course Director of the MSt in Local and Regional History. Her research interests encompass the history of poverty in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and welfare provision for unmarried mothers in London. Girton College is delighted to invite entries for the 2012 Jane Martin Poetry Prize. Now in its second year, the prize is a key part of the College's support for poetry and will be of interest to all those serious about literary excellence.
The competition will be judged by experts drawn from across the literary world and academia. We are thrilled that this year the panel will include Bernard O'Donoghue and Gwyneth Lewis.

Dr Colm Durkan co-founds CambridgeNano Posted on Feb. 1, 2012
Dr Colm Durkan, Lecturer and Director of Studies for Engineering at Girton, has unveiled a new enterprise aiming to provide microscopes for Nanotechnology. The business, CambridgeNano, based at the St John's innovation centre, hopes one day to provide affordable equipment for secondary schools to increase awareness of and interest in Science, as well as working with industry and higher education.
