Girton Electrical Engineering Fellow talks about his research on Radio 5 Live Posted on May 18, 2012
Girton Electrical Engineering Fellow, Dr Sabesan Sithamparanathan, talks on the 'Dr Karl and the Naked Scientist' programme on Radio 5 Live about his research into expanding the area of the RFID tracking system using radio signals. This tracking system won the 2011 UK RAEng/ERA Innovation Prize and is intended to be developed commercially, for example, to help locate lost luggage at airports or to track important documents.

Jane Martin Poetry Prize announced Posted on May 1, 2012
We are pleased to announce that Jane Yeh is the winner of the 2012 Jane Martin Poetry Prize. Jane Yeh is a published American poet now resident in the UK. Her first collection was published by Carcanet.
Now in its second year, the Jane Martin Poetry Prize is a key part of the College's support for poetry. The competition is judged by experts drawn from across the literary world and academia; this year the panel included Bernard O'Donoghue and Gwyneth Lewis.
The prize will be presented on 10 May 2012 by the founder, Professor Sir Laurence Martin.

Girtonian in BBC Titanic Commemoration Concert Posted on April 16, 2012
Girtonian Charlie Siem (2005), violinist, played in the BBC's Titanic: A Commemoration in Music and Film on Saturday at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, among other performances, including Nicola Benedetti, the Ulster Orchestra and the Irish Harp Orchestra.

Girton welcomes new Development Director Posted on April 2, 2012
Girton is delighted to announce that Elizabeth Wade will be taking up the role of Development Director from 1 May. Elizabeth, an alumna of Girton (1976), is a former Group Director of Communications and Investor Relations at Barclays PLC and will lead our highly successful development team towards the 150th anniversary of our Foundation in 2019.

Humanities Writing Competition Posted on March 14, 2012
Girton College has launched its first Humanities Writing Competition. Open to any Yr 12 student of any combination of subjects, the competition is based on six objects that are housed in the Lawrence Room, the College's antiquities museum. Students are invited to use one or more of the objects as starting points for their own research to be taken in any direction they choose, and to then produce a written response.
Deliberately designed to be broad, it is hoped that the competition will be an opportunity for sixth formers to combine the use of their own imagination and interests ... -

Dr Samantha Williams, Girton Fellow, on Today Posted on Feb. 24, 2012
Dr Samantha Williams, Fellow in History, was on the Today Programme this morning talking about her research into welfare provision in Bedfordshire between 1760 and 1834. Dr Wiliams is also mentioned in the Guardian's leading article on 24 February 2012.
Dr Williams is a Bye Fellow of Girton College. She is also a University Lecturer, and is Course Director of the MSt in Local and Regional History. Her research interests encompass the history of poverty in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and welfare provision for unmarried mothers in London.
