**UPDATED** Girtonians honoured in New Year Honours list Posted on Jan. 5, 2009
Congratulations to the following Girtonians, who have been honoured in the 2009 New Year List
Anne Owers, who read History at Girton, has been appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours List for services to the Criminal Justice System.
Dame Anne was formerly Director of JUSTICE, before taking up her current appointment as Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Prisons in 2001.Lady Vaizey, who also read History at Girton, has been appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the Arts.
