Dining and Socialising

A range of dining choices in stunning spaces

Dining in Hall

Girton has one of the largest dining halls in Cambridge, which forms a spectacular backdrop to a variety of dining occasions.

For everyday dining, three meals a day are available, served buffet-style from the cafeteria, with a wide choice of hot and cold food available every day, including tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes, and with provision made for special diets . Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a Saturday evening service and Sunday Carvery dinner.

Girton’s Formal Hall dinners, which take place on Thursday evenings in term, and for which gowns are worn, are extremely popular among students, and offer the chance to enjoy an exquisite fine dining menu prepared by our outstanding chefs, with waiter service. There is also the opportunity to invite guests from other colleges for a truly memorable occasion.

Social Hub

The Social Hub is the newest addition to Girton’s dining and social spaces, and was opened in 2019 by Girton alumna and Honorary Fellow Sandi Toksvig. By day, the Social Hub serves a range of hot and cold food and drinks in an open and friendly space which lends itself to conversations with friends, small gatherings and informal study. By night, the counter opens up as a Bar, and the Social Hub becomes a place to catch up with friends over drinks. The Social Hub also serves as a space for informal musical performances and other events and social occasions.

Bar

In the cellar beneath the Social Hub is a more traditional student bar which may be booked for a variety of social occasions, including JCR entz. Full of character and with nooks and crannies for a quiet (or not so quiet) conversation, it also includes a range of bar games such as table football.
