How to get to Girton College & Wolfson Court
Where we are
Girton College’s main site is situated just over 2 miles north-west of Cambridge city centre on the Huntingdon Road. Wolfson Court is in the west of Cambridge at Clarkson Road. The University’s main website includes information about getting to Cambridge and detailed information about getting to the College is given below.
Public transport within Cambridge
Train services
There are no direct buses from the railway station to the main College site. Buses (Stagecoach Nos. Citi 1, Citi 3 and Citi 7) go from the railway station to the city centre every few minutes. Or it is about 20 minutes walk to the city centre (go down Station Road; turn right at the War Memorial onto Hills Road, keep going). Once at the city centre, you can catch a bus along Huntingdon Road to reach the main College site – see below.
To reach Wolfson Court, catch a Uni 4 bus from Hills Road (go down Station Road; turn left at the War Memorial onto Hills Road, continue past Brooklands Avenue and over the railway bridge until your reach the bus stop outside Hills Road Sixth Form College. Or catch a Citi 1 or Citi 7 to the Sixth Form College, and cross the road to catch the Uni 4). Alight on Grange Road at the stop just past the entrance to Clarkson Road.

To the main College site. Buses along Huntingdon Road leave from the bus station and also from stop E5 in Emmanuel Street, in the City centre. Any that go to Girton/Oakington/Huntingdon/St. Ives/Bar Hill will do. Make sure you ask for Girton Corner. Stagecoach Nos. Citi 5, Citi 6 and 55 cost £1.85 (as of March 2010); Whippet Nos. 1A and 5 cost £1.60. Frequent during the day (every 10 minutes or so), sparse after 6.30pm and on Sundays. At a brisk pace, it is possible to walk from the main College site into town in about 45 minutes.
To Wolfson Court. The Citi 4 bus service to Cambourne leaves from stop D3 in Drummer Street, in the City Centre. Alight on Grange Road at the stop just past the entrance to Clarkson Road. Fairly frequent (every 20 minutes) during the day, hourly in the evenings and on Sundays.
Taxis
A taxi is the easiest method to either the main College or Wolfson Court from the rail, coach or bus stations if funds allow (approx £10 from the City centre). It is also advisable to catch a taxi if arriving at Cambridge’s airport.

To Girton by car

To the main College site. From north of Cambridge, when coming in on the A14, keep left past the interchange with the M11 and then take the right hand fork on to the A1307 in the direction of the city (Huntingdon Road). The College is 500 metres after the junction. If coming from the south on the M11 leave at J13, proceed towards the city centre on the A1303 and then turn left following signs for the A1307 (Huntingdon Road). Please note that when coming from the south you cannot get to Girton from Junction 14 of the M11 unless you then continue north on the A14 to the Dry Drayton turn and then double-back.
Drivers are warned that attempting to drive through the City is not a good idea. Traffic can be heavy, parts of the centre are pedestrian only, and the one-way system takes some getting used to.
To Girton from abroad
Via the Channel Tunnel
If arriving by train via the Channel Tunnel, you will arrive at St. Pancras International station. Cross the road to King’s Cross station, and catch a train from there to Cambridge.
Note that trains to Cambridge also run from London Liverpool St. Station, but those from King’s Cross are faster and more frequent.
Once at Cambridge railway station, please follow the instructions above for getting to Girton.
By ferry
If arriving by ferry, take a train into London. Take the Underground to King’s Cross, and a train from there to Cambridge. Once at Cambridge railway station, please follow the instructions above for getting to Girton.
By air
If wishing to travel by train from the airport, it is easiest to go by train into central London, take the Underground to King’s Cross station and catch a train from there to Cambridge. The exception is Stansted airport, from which there are direct trains to Cambridge. Once at Cambridge railway station, please follow the instructions above for getting to Girton. Alternatively, there are coach services from most of the London airports to Cambridge.

- Heathrow. Coaches run roughly hourly from Heathrow airport Central Bus Station to Cambridge, taking between 2 and 3 hours. If wishing to travel by train, take the Underground (Piccadilly line) to King’s Cross station, and a train from there to Cambridge. Once in Cambridge, please follow the instructions above. - Gatwick. Coaches run roughly hourly from Heathrow airport Central Bus Station to Cambridge, taking between 3 and 4 hours. If wishing to travel by train, take a train to London Victoria or London St Pancras. Take the Underground from Victoria to King’s Cross station (or walk across the road from St Pancras to King’s Cross), and a train from there to Cambridge. - Stansted. Stansted is the nearest major airport to Cambridge. Coaches run roughly every 2 hours from Stansted airport to Cambridge, taking about 50 minutes. There are also trains from Stansted airport to Cambridge railway station, which take about 35 minutes. Once in Cambridge, please follow the instructions above. - Luton. Coaches run roughly every 2 hours from Luton airport to Cambridge, taking about 95 minutes. If wishing to travel by train, take a train into London St Pancras station. - London City. There are no direct coach services between London City airport and Cambridge. Take a train into London Paddington station. Take the Underground to King’s Cross station, and a train from there to Cambridge. Once in Cambridge, please follow the instructions above.
