The Mistress and the Girton College Roll of Alumni warmly invite you and your family to the third Students and Parents Dinner on Saturday 10th November 2012. The evening will begin at 7.00 pm with a drinks reception followed by a 3 course dinner in the Hall at 7.40 pm. The dress code is lounge suits/smart. Gowns should not be worn.

During the evening two alumni guest speakers will provide their perspectives on that important transition from the College to life after Girton. This year the speakers are: Mrs Joyce Thom (Edwards, 1974) and The Rev Dr Jamie Hawkey (1998). Joyce taught languages before retraining as a guidance counsellor and she now works for HMP Manchester as a Distance Learning Co-Ordinator, teaching Open University and working with helping prisoners obtain college or university places on release. Jamie worked as a curate in inner city Portsmouth before moving to Westminster Abbey as a Minor Canon where he is responsible, with colleagues, both for daily worship and the many special services that take place to mark national and ecumenical events.

Throughout the evening there will be an opportunity to talk to our guest speakers and to the other Girton alumni hosts present who are from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, including the media, financial services and the law. The intention is to allow students to talk to those now in the world of work and gain insights on how to plan their own 'next steps' after graduation. This lively evening is also a unique opportunity to invite your family to dine in Hall and to show off something of the College to them!
