NEWS
Girton in the news. Publication of Girtonians and the World Wars and Bluestockings: the Remarkable Story of the First Women to Fight for an Education was covered by the Cambridge Evening News. The paper also printed a feature on the People’s Portraits collection which, along with the The Independent’s feature earlier this year, is helping the College promote this fascinating exhibition.
Telephone Campaign Success. We would like to thank all those who have participated in and supported this year's Telephone Campaign. We are delighted to announce that we have raised just over £191,000, which is around £40,000 more than ever before in our telethons and it will make a real difference. For those who we did not get chance to speak to this year, we do not want you to miss out so please watch our video.
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. As well as becoming a fan of the Girton Alumni Facebook page, you can now follow the College on Twitter and join the Girton College Alumni Group on LinkedIn.
The Lawrence Room. Girton's own small, but perfectly-formed museum is now open every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.
Easter Term and the Summer Vacation were busy periods for the College. The second Medics Reunion Dinner and the second Sports Dinner were held, the latter at the Oxford and Cambridge Club in London. Both occasions were lively affairs enjoyed by alumni and current students alike. The Easter Term’s Alumni Formal Hall, was well attended as was the Roll Buffet Lunch, where guests were treated to a fascinating talk by Her Excellency Judge Rosalyn Higgins on the International Court of Justice. That evening the College thanked many of her supporters at the CU 800th Anniversary Dinner for Donors. Alumni celebrating 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60 years since matriculation were invited back to various dinners at the College in September. The last of these dinners was the annual Roll Dinner which was also one of the last official College functions for the outgoing Mistress, Professor Dame Marilyn Strathern. The Guest Speaker was Dr Joan Oates, Life Fellow and Tutor, who gave a fascinating speech titled ‘Chance and Design, a life in Archaeology’.
