COLLEGE UPDATE
The Michaelmas Term is always a very busy time as the College not only welcomes a new group of students (and on this occasion a new Mistress) but also arranges a number of alumni events. The attendees of the termly Alumni Formal Hall in October were treated to a uniquely decorated Hall as the theme of the 2010 Spring Ball, Absurdism, was announced that evening. The College hosted the first Student/Parent Dinner in November, which gave friends and family of current students the opportunity to dine in Hall and to hear from two speakers, Carenza Lewis (1982) and Marc Finer (2001), about their experiences after leaving Girton. Later that month a number of members of the Infidel Boat Club and their guests met at the Oxford and Cambridge Club for a lively evening of banter and fine food. The annual alumni football and rugby matches were played near the end of the term. The current students won the football fixture while the ‘old boys’ triumphed in the rugby. The Girton Women’s XI played a tough game against a Girton Rogue XI but sadly were beaten on this occasion. The final events of the year took place in New York, a reception and talk at the Harvard Club, and San Francisco, a delightful dinner with Selwyn alumni, and coincided with the University’s 800th celebrations in the US.
