NEWS

Girtonian receives blogger award: Sports writer Tom Fordyce (1992) won the Best Live Blog award at the Sports Journalists Association earlier this year.

10th Anniversary of the People's Portraits collection: As part of the celebrations, 12 of the newest additions to the collection are on show at the Mall Galleries in London as part of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters' Annual Exhibition.  This exhibition is open to the public from 6th May to 21st May.

Telephone Campaign: This Easter our 2010 Telephone Campaign took place, during which a number of Old Girtonians had the chance to speak to one of our current students, who updated them on the latest Girton news and events, and invited them to support some of our exciting future plans.  So far the telethon has raised over £143,000, with over half the people called making a donation.  If you would like to see this year's student callers and find out more about our current priority funds, please visit www.girton.cam.ac.uk/annual-fund.

Music Society Calendar: The Girton College Music Society has published its Lent Term concert calendar.  All Girtonians, and their guests, are welcome.

Your Thoughts: As part of an ongoing project to update the website and the College prospectus we are inviting Girtonians to submit any poignant memories (or photos!) they have of the College, their studies or any sports or societies they were involved with that can be quoted for promotional material. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

College Update
The Lent Term alumni events started with the annual Geographical Society Dinner, last before Dr Roland Randall, who instigated these dinners, retires. The Geographical Society would like to thank Geographical magazine, Heifers bookshop, Lush, the Fudge Kitchen, Breeze gift shop and the President’s family for their kind donations of raffle prizes. Once again the Alumni Formal Hall provided a chance for Old Girtonians and guests to dine in Hall and met with other alumni, Fellows and current students. Two similar opportunities for alumni, students and Fellows to mix were presented at the Law Reception and at the launch of the Girton Alumni Sports Association. Both receptions were held in unique locations; the Law Reception, generously supported by Slaughter & May, was held at the Luncheon Room, Inner Temple while the Sports Association launch was held in the stunning Long Room at Lord’s cricket ground.  During the Easter vacation Vice-Mistress Dr Julia Riley presided over a lively reunion dinner for those who matriculated in 2000 and 1995 and the College was also delighted to welcome back so many recent graduates at this year’s MA Dinner. The new Mistress, Professor Susan J. Smith, had her first official visit to Singapore and Hong Kong and was thrilled with warm reception received from local alumni.
