Girton College University of Cambridge

Telephone Campaign 2012

Following our very successful 2011 Campaign, we will again be arranging for a team of our student volunteers to be in touch with alumni in 2012. Our volunteers will be talking to you about the latest news and events from College, keeping you in touch with student life and discussing ways in which our alumni can help to safeguard the Girton experience for current and future generations.

Last year well over half those contacted felt able to contribute, raising over £170,000 in support of our Teaching Support fund, Girton Futures fund and Girton Opportunities funds.  Every contribution helps – a large number of relatively modest gifts really can add up to an extraordinary result. In the past year, donations just like this have helped us provide bursaries to those in need, refurbish student accommodation, and maintain and improve our library and archive facilities. We aim to build on this for 2012 and ensure all our students, regardless of background, can enjoy the best possible education in the best possible setting.

We are focusing on a few key areas for 2012, as part of our new Great Campaign. These are: supporting Scholarly Excellence, Living and Learning and Financial Sustainability. Supporting us in these areas will allow the College to continue to grown and develop its bursary provision, accomodation and put the College on a secure financial footing for future generations of students. You can find more details here

Scholarly excellence - the Teaching Support Fund | Living and Learning - Ash court development |Living and learning - Sports Pavilion Fund | Postgraduate Bursaries and Childcare Bursaries | | Financial Sustainability - the College endowment Fund |

In the past few years, funding for University education has fallen drastically. Our income from Government funding and tuition fees is just over £2 million; the cost of educating our students is just over £3 million. The new tuition fee structure has simply replaced the lost funding, and we are keen to do everything we can to help students afford the cost of a Girton education. Support from our alumni is a vital part of our future, which we hope will enable us to continue to provide the highest quality education to the widest possible range of talented students
