Girton Development
Looking to the future
The College is embarking on a new phase of its development from 2012, and we are planning a major launch event, to which we will invite existing donors and alumni, in London in the spring of 2012. We thank all of our donors for their support in completing the 21st Century Campaign, which has achieved its target of £15 million.
Our next phase is to secure the financial future of the College by building our endowment further, and rationalising Girton’s large estate.
With the University 800th as well as Girton’s 140th anniversary campaigns coming to successful conclusions, Girton looks to its impending 150th Anniversary in 2019. Three major challenges are apparent: the College’s running costs exceeding its income (after depreciation of assets is factored in), the uncertainty of public funding for UK Higher Education, and the College’s own ambitious plans - particularly to increase funds available for teaching, and to rationalize the College’s estate.
The most urgent priority before the official launch of our new campaign next spring is the building of a new Wing at Ash Court. This exciting new building will revolutionise the student experience at Girton.
Areas of College in need of your support
As of 2011, the College is focusing on supporting several key areas: Ash Court | College’s Endowment Fund | Sports Pavilion Fund | Teaching Support Fund | Girton Opportunities Fund | Bursaries | Girton Futures Fund (Access)
With the reduction in government funding, Girton is more dependent than ever before on the support of its former students and friends to enable the College to continue in its mission in providing a first-class education to all who merit a place in College regardless of their background or financial circumstances. Girton is immensely grateful to its many benefactors, without whose support the College would not exist as we know it today. Even a small gift can make a huge difference to the total raised, as the wide participation of our alumni in donating can influence funding decisions by donors such as Trusts and corporations.
In addition to the aforementioned priority funds, you can support various other aspects of College, including:
Tower Wing Refurbishment Fund | Lawrence Room | Boat Club Millennium Fund
Please contact the Development Office if you would like to discuss a specific fund. Gifts to the College from UK taxpayers now attract Gift Aid, which means for every £10 given by a taxpayer, the College receives £12.50. Even a small gift can make a huge difference to the total raised, as the wide participation of our alumni in donating can influence funding decisions by donors such as Trusts and corporations.
