Update on Ash Court and Sports Pavilion

 December 2012

Ash Courtac dec 2012 sml

More photographs of Ash Court can be found on our Facebook page

Work on our new wing to complete Ash Court is progressing fast despite the cold weather.

The project is generally on track for 2013. All internal block partitions are now in, and we are currently building the stud work partitions for the fifty en-suite bathrooms! Work is also well underway on electrics and drainage.

Currently, the roof plates are going on, weather permitting. This means, excitingly, that we will be in position to bring in the first of the roof sections before Christmas.

In other news, we are ready to assemble the walls of the new gym and ergo room, the gable wall of the squash court has been built, and work continues on the renovation of the pool.

The next stage is the delivery and installation of pre-cast concrete window surrounds and glazed window units. Once these are on site, work on the exterior walls can progress and internal finishing can begin.

Work is also continuing on the site of the new Sports Pavilion. So far, the contractors have stripped the site, and laid the twenty concrete piles that the finished structure will sit on. The walls have been started and will soon be ready for the floor to be put in.

The Pavilion will provide two changing rooms, an umpire's changing room, an external equipment store, and social space complete with kitchenette. The project is scheduled for completion in 2013 and will be an invaluable resource for our sports teams, both student and alumni.

We would like to thank all those generous alumni and supporters who have been such an important part of both of these projects. Once completed, they will be a vital part of the life of the College for generations to come, and we hope many of you will be able to visit them and see the difference they can make for yourselves.

The Infidel Boat Club

The Infidel Boat Club (TIBC) is Girton's alumni boat club. The Club endeavours to encourage networking between alumni who used to row; to support Girton College Boat Club; and to promote rowing within the College and beyond. Since its formation in 2001, TIBC has enabled more than 40 Old Girtonians to get out on the water. The Club organises rowing and social events in Cambridge, London and beyond; and by keeping members updated on both TIBC and GCBC activities, the Club hopes to create a social hub that maintains and develops friendships forged on the Cam.

Funds raised through subscriptions will ensure the Club is able to offer rowing and social activities to alumni, and will help to cover insurance and equipment costs. The overarching aim is to strengthen links between alumni and current Girton students, and to facilitate the development of GCBC.

There is a subscription fee of £25 per year to be a member. Members will be added to an e-mail list and will receive news of forthcoming events and activities. If you wish to join as a Patron, with the chance to have your name acknowledged in rowing programmes, we ask for a donation of at least £200.

If you would like to subscribe to become a Member or Patron of The Infidel Boat Club, then you can either donate online by credit or debit card, download a donation form or request a Friends brochure by contacting JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING .
