Personal Support
The College provides personal support to its students in a variety of different ways. All students have a personal Tutor, who is a Fellow of Girton but normally in a different subject from the one you are studying. Your Tutor can be consulted on any problem which is not strictly subject-related and can offer confidential help and advice in a variety of different areas such as personal, financial, or general academic problems. In addition there are a number of other members of College – for example, your Director of Studies, other Tutors, the Chaplain, the JCR Welfare Officers – who are always available for consultation should you want to approach them. We also have two Counsellors with special responsibility for Girton students. The College Nurses are always ready to provide a sympathetic ear as well as being there to help and advise in the case of illness or accident.
The Porters’ Lodges in the Girton main building and at Wolfson Court are open 24 hours a day during term time and the Porters are therefore always available as a first port of call in case you have any queries or some sort of emergency occurs.
