Food

Salad bar in the cafeteria Girton has an attractive up-to-date self-service cafeteria providing lunch and an evening meal. There is a wide choice of food and vegetarian alternatives are always available. Once a week there is an optional formal dinner – this is always a very popular event; it is one of the few occasions upon which undergraduates need to wear gowns.

Students eating in dining hall Breakfast, lunch and an evening meal are also served at Wolfson Court. Many Girtonians choose to eat in the cafeteria at Wolfson Court at lunchtime for convenience. We also have reciprocal dining rights with Clare, Pembroke and Downing Colleges and our students sometimes eat in these Colleges. Because of its location and excellent food the Wolfson Court cafeteria is popular with people from these other colleges too.

Even informal meals are important social events in a college community and provide you with the opportunity to relax and talk to your friends and to meet new people. You are therefore encouraged to use the cafeterias as much as possible. You pay a subsidy towards the running of the cafeterias at the beginning of each term and then pay roughly cost price for any meals you take. If you prefer to cater for yourself, there are communal kitchens on every corridor and some basic groceries may be bought through the cafeteria and at nearby shops.
