Chamber Music Scheme
New in 2011 is the Girton Chamber Music Scheme - an opportunity for any player at any standard to be linked up with other musicians in Girton.
Throughout the university there is an instrumental scheme for a few select players. The vast majority of musicians, however, do not have access to coaching or professional help with music making, and may not have access to advice on repertoire, or struggle to find the right players.
Girton is aiming to fill this gap with a unique Chamber Music Scheme. This project will aim to give everyone in college the opportunity to meet other musicians, explore new repertoire under the guidance of Music Fellows, receive expert coaching, and to perform. The scheme brings together undergraduates, graduates and staff, and culminates in a performance at the end of each term.
Each group will receive coaching from professional musicians, and some will have the opportunity to establish links with professional ensembles such as the Scottish Flute Trio, the Gallimaufry Wind Ensemble and Southbank Sinfonia. The scheme aims to raise the profile of music making in Girton by helping establish groups at every level, bringing college members together, and establishing Girton as a centre of excellence for chamber music.
This term sees a wind ensemble, string quartet, baroque ensemble, a performance of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, trombone and violin ensemble, piano trio, recorder trio sonatas, and wind trio.
