IT Information for Conference Guests
Computing Facilities for Conferences
If you require computer access and/or web access for groups, classrooms or 'offices' during your stay at the College, please contact the Computer Office (preferably by email) prior to your arrival at the College to ensure that you requirements can be accommodated.
If you are bringing your own computer to the College, please be aware of the following:
Windows version
- Please make sure that you are not running Windows 2000 or earlier as this is no longer supported.
- All networked machines must be kept up to date with security fixes at all times, available from the Microsoft Update Site.
Ethernet Connection to College Network
- If you wish to connect to the network you will need an Ethernet Card installed (UTP/RJ45).
Wireless Connection College Network
If you wish to connect to the wireless network you will need a Wireless Card installed and a 'Guest Lapwing Ticket' available from the Conference Office. There are a number of wireless 'hotspots' around College. You are not permitted to install any wireless access points.
Anti-virus software
- You must ensure that you have Anti-Virus software installed on your computer as soon as possible after you arrive.
Academic Conferences run by University of Cambridge Departments/Colleges etc.
Academic conferences are permitted to use the Internet via the CUDN and Janet. 'Eduroam' is available via the University's 'Lapwing Wireless Service'. Any queries should be directed to the Computer Office.
Conferences run by External Companies
Companies who wish to have web access for their delegates for the duration of their conference can obtain a guest account for the University's wireless 'Lapwing Wireless Service'. Lapwing 'hotspots' are available in the following areas:
Main Site
- Old Kitchens - 24 hour access
- Old Hall
- Conference Rooms
Wolfson Court (Clarkson Road site)
- Conference Rooms
Support and advice
Support can be provided from the College Computer Office during the Conference period. Organisers and/or delegates should contact the Computer Office via the Porters' Lodge, providing contact details and a summary of the problem.
