Volume 17 of The Complete New English Hymnal ~ 2004

The Complete New English Hymnal Vol. 17 was recorded during April 2004 in Girton College Chapel. The CD forms part of Priory Records’ ongoing project to produce a complete recording of the Hymnal, and includes well-known hymns alongside plainsong and chant from the Anglican liturgy. Drawing from the rich history of hymn writing, the content ranges from ‘Joy and triumph everlasting’, a translation of twelfth-century Latin words set to music from the 1551 Genevan Psalter, to ‘Faithful vigil ended’, a paraphrase of the Nunc dimittis composed in 1967. The recording includes a number of descants written specially for the CD by members of the choir.

Faithful vigil ended Glory to thee, my God, this night
Take up thy cross, the Saviour said Sun of my soul, thou Saviour dear
